An antique Dutch Art Nouveau twin-handled vase by the Arnhemsche Fayencefabriek, hand-painted in the Nieuwe Kunst style of circa 1907 to 1917. The bulbous gourd-form body rises to a tall slender neck flanked by two looped handles, decorated with stylized lotus-palmette fans, scrolling tendrils, and beaded swags in soft ochre, sage green, and cobalt blue against a cream crackle ground under a matte glaze.

The Arnhemsche Fayencefabriek was founded in 1907 in Arnhem by the brothers Jacob and Klaas Vet, who had trained in Purmerend in the Brantjes tradition and brought the old plaster molds and decorative vocabulary with them. The factory's earliest output was closely related to the celebrated Purmerend and Rozenburg wares, with Klaas Vet designing the forms and decors. This piece reflects that early period, with the linear floral decoration on a white ground under matte glaze that is the hallmark of the factory.

The base bears the factory's hand-painted hexagonal rooster mark, the registered trademark of the Arnhemsche Fayencefabriek, accompanied by a hand-written ochre decor number 24 and a painter's notation. Pieces from the Vet brothers' early years are sought after by collectors of Dutch Art Nouveau ceramics, and examples are held in the collections of the National Gallery of Victoria and Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen.

The vase measures approximately 9.5 inches high and 6 inches wide, weighing 1 pound 3 ounces. It is hand-decorated earthenware with applied handles, finished in a fine crackle glaze.

Condition is excellent for the age, with overall fine crazing throughout the glaze consistent with earthenware of the early 1900s. There are no chips or cracks to the body, neck, or handles. Please refer to the detailed photographs, which document the piece from all angles including the base mark.

Sourced in person from a Pacific Northwest estate. Curated by SWCurated. Each piece is double-boxed with three layers of protective wrapping for safe international transit. We ship within 1 to 2 business days and welcome any questions before purchase.
