[Paragraph 1] This original press photograph of Donald W. Riegle Jr. (1938–2026) is hand-signed in bold black felt-tip across the lower edge. It is accompanied by an official 1967 United States Senate booklet from the 90th Congress, the same Congress in which Riegle began his long career on Capitol Hill. Riegle served five terms as U.S. Representative from Michigan, then three terms as U.S. Senator, retiring in 1995 after nearly three decades in Washington.
[Paragraph 2] Riegle entered Congress in 1967 as a young Republican from Flint, Michigan. He later crossed the aisle to become a Democrat in 1973, eventually rising to chair the Senate Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee. His career intersected with many of the defining political moments of the era, from Vietnam-era Congressional reform through the savings-and-loan crisis of the late 1980s. Riegle passed away in April 2026.
