A vintage brooch from "The Original Maile Collection" by James Will, produced by J.W. Gold Sculptures International and copyright dated 1978. The piece takes the form of a single naturalistic leaf with finely serrated edges and detailed veining. Made by the electroforming process, in which an actual leaf is encased and finished in 24K gold, so that each piece follows the unique contours of the original leaf. The surface shows the characteristic matte-and-bright texture of electroformed botanical work. The reverse carries a roll-over safety-catch pin fitting for wear as a brooch. The piece retains its original printed collection card describing the Maile Collection and its Hawaiian theme. The maile leaf holds cultural significance in Hawaii, and this collection was marketed as a wearable tribute to that tradition. The accompanying card notes the design's Hawaiian origin and the electroformed 24K gold construction. Condition: very good vintage.
